Key Capture Energy joins Sungrow to see delivery of batteries at 50 MW Texas storage project

KCE team members recently joined the Sungrow team during the installation of 50 MW of battery energy storage systems at our KCE TX 13 project. Located about 80 miles west of Abilene in Scurry County, Texas, KCE TX 13 is sited in an area rich with wind energy projects. As the Texas electric grid continues to have new wind and solar generation come online, battery storage projects are playing a crucial role in balancing electric supply and demand.

The cells, enclosures, cabling, and power conversion skids were installed in May of 2022. This construction project is going through all commissioning steps before being energized. The batteries delivered by Sungrow to KCE TX 13 are a part of our supply agreement with Sungrow for construction on projects in both New York and Texas.

KCE was one of the first companies to build standalone storage projects in Texas that were not just performing fast frequency response. KCE has had a history of starting small to learn, and then using that knowledge to get to scale. KCE’s first Texas projects (KCE TX 2, KCE TX 7 and KCE TX 8), completed in 2020, were 9.9 MW in size. Now KCE is constructing projects in Texas that range in size from 50 MW to 100 MW.

Founded in 2016 with headquarters in Albany, NY and offices in Houston, TX, and Salt Lake City, UT, KCE has 424 megawatts (MW) of standalone energy storage projects in construction and operations and a development pipeline of over 4,000 MW of storage projects across the United States.
