Sungrow Receives TM-2 Approval and Certificate of Approval for Its Liquid Cooled ESS PowerTitan in New York City

New York City, the USA, May 18th, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 18th, 2023, Sungrow, the global leading inverter and energy storage system solution supplier, received the highly coveted TM-2 approval and Certificate of Approval (COA) for the PowerTitan Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in New York City (NYC). This critical certification is required for energy storage systems to be interconnected to the local grid. With this approval, Sungrow is well-positioned to provide sustainable energy solutions to businesses in NYC, contributing to the city's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and transition to clean energy.

To use a BESS for a project in NYC, it must first meet the fire safety requirements set by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). The approval process involves laboratory tests and certifications to ensure that the system can prevent thermal runaway fires, which are challenging to extinguish and can re-ignite afterward. To get certified, manufacturers need to submit the TM-2 form for review to the FDNY, either directly or through an authorized person.

The FDNYs COA is a key step to entering the NYC market and an initial gateway to NYC approvals for energy storage products. Sungrow became one of a few companies that received the certification. Its UL9540 and UL9540A certified liquid cooled ESS PowerTitan well performs in safety features including fire and gas detection systems, explosion mitigation, battery management system, internal dry-pipe system, and other proposed conditions.

“This achievement demonstrates Sungrow's commitment to providing safe and reliable energy storage solutions to customers in the US and worldwide, and further establishes our position as a global leader in the energy storage industry, said Hank Wang, President of Sungrow Americas.

As a result of liquid cooled thermal management, PowerTitan has a superior lifespan. The DC-DC controller can charge and discharge battery racks individually, increasing system performance. To date, Sungrow has already signed nine gigawatt hours of orders with PowerTitan globally.
